Big Sky Resort Updates
Big Sky Resort Unveils Lone Peak Tram Lower Terminal
Big Sky Resort introduces the new Lower Tram Terminal in the 2024-25 season, a key feature in the Lone Peak Tram redevelopment. As part of the resort's visionary Big Sky 2025 plan, this state-of-the-art terminal enhances guest experience from the moment they embark on their journey to the 11,166-foot summit of Lone Mountain. At the bottom terminal of the Lone Peak Tram stands an architectural marvel: a sweeping glass dome that encapsulates nature's artistry. This remarkable structure, composed of over 400 panels of one-inch-thick glass, creates a protective canopy over the terminal's base, where visitors begin their journey to Lone Peak. The semi-enclosed dome allows the tram cabins to be protected from the elements when not in use, keeping them pristine for years to come. The dome's design draws inspiration from the intricate beauty of snowflakes and the artistry of natural elements. Each piece of glass is meticulously shaped and placed to form a fluid, faceted surface that mimics the elegance of snowdrifts and ice crystals. The interplay of light, shadows, and reflections on the glass panels evokes the dynamic and ever-changing nature of snow and ice. Just as snowflakes vary in form and beauty, so does this structure shift in perception based on viewing angles and environmental conditions, turning every glance into a unique visual experience. The new Lone Peak Tram debuted for the 2023-24 season.
Big Sky Resort Welcomes the World's Longest Eight-Seat Chairlift: Madison 8
Big Sky Resort is introducing the Madison 8 lift, set to open for the 2024-25 ski season. This new eight-seat, state-of-the-art D-line chairlift will replace the existing Six Shooter lift on the resort's north side. Madison 8 will set a global record as the longest eight-seat chairlift in the world, effectively doubling uphill capacity and reducing ride time by 30%. The lift will feature heated seats, weather-protective blue bubbles, automatic safety bars, and footrests, ensuring a comfortable and efficient ride.
Big Sky Resort Elevates Mountain Experience with New Lone Peak Tram
Big Sky Resort in Montana unveiled its new Lone Peak Tram, which opened in December 2023, marking a major milestone for the resort's 50th anniversary. The tram is a state-of-the-art replacement of the original tram, increasing capacity from 15 to 75 passengers and offering a faster, smoother ride up to the 11,166-foot summit of Lone Mountain. The tram takes just under five minutes to cover the 2,142 vertical feet, making it accessible to both skiers and non-skiers. The new tram features a spacious cabin with floor to ceiling windows to take in the Alps-like exposure of Lone Peak. Guests who wish to sightsee can ride the tram up to take in the breathtaking views at the highest scenic overlook in the state and enjoy the peaceful ride down the mountain. Sweeping views of Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming, as well as Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks will be waiting for tram passengers at the mountain top.
