New York - June 6, 2025: This year, the Loire Valley region of France is marking the 20th anniversary of La Loire à Vélo (or “the Loire by Bike”), considered France's most popular bike route, welcoming nearly two million cyclists each year. Following the scenic Loire River, this 560-mile, family-friendly route passes through beautiful landscapes, charming villages, towns, historic landmarks, vineyards and châteaux. On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, visitors can bike the entire route, or just a small part of it, as well as participate in some of the many events taking place in the region.
One of the standout features of 2025 is Cœur de France à Vélo, a new route that connects La Loire à Vélo to Bourges, starting from the city of Tours, now offering a fresh way to experience the region. The route connects the central Loire Valley to the Berry countryside through scenic landscapes, charming villages and historic landmarks, including the iconic Château de Chenonceau.
Cyclists visiting the region can also take part in Les Échappées à Vélo, a series of nearly 60 festive rides taking place between May and October 2025. Now in its 14th edition, the program will honor the three major anniversaries taking place in the region: 20 years of La Loire à Vélo, 25 years since the Loire Valley's UNESCO World Heritage inscription, and 15 years of the French gastronomic meal's inclusion on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list. Each ride offers a unique way to engage with the region—through music, food, local experiences and family-friendly adventures.
Happening in the Loire Valley for the first time this year, in celebration of the 20th anniversary of La Loire à Vélo, is Mad Jacques Val de Loire, an immersive three-day “pedal-disco” cycling experience. Taking place from June 7–9, 2025, the ride begins in Amboise and winds through Blois to Orléans, featuring music, food trucks, film screenings and DJ sets along the way. More than just a bike ride, Mad Jacques is a vibrant, social experience that brings together a new generation of cyclists for a fun escape into the heart of the Loire Valley.
