PlayMakers Repertory Company
Located on the University of North Carolina campus, PlayMakers is a nationally recognized professional theater company. Their season runs from September to April, featuring a mix of contemporary and classic works. The 25-26 includes plays ranging from Macbeth to Steel Magnolias.
Carolina Performing Arts
Performing in the historic Memorial Hall, see concerts, selections from the symphony, dance and more running September though April or early May.
Paperhand Puppet Intervention
This nonprofit troupe is known for its large-scale puppetry and immersive performances that often explore environmental themes. Their 25th production, The Gift, debuted at Chapel Hill’s Forest Theatre in August 2025 and runs on weekends through September 28. This exciting show runs each Fall.

Ackland Art Museum
Situated at 101 S. Columbia Street, the Ackland is one of North Carolina’s premier art museums. It offers free admission and features rotating exhibitions, public programs, and guided tours.
Carolina Basketball Museum
Located on the UNC campus, this museum showcases the rich history of Tar Heel basketball through artifacts, photos, and interactive displays.
Take a Mural Tour
From the Chapel Hill & Orange County Welcome Center on Franklin Street, take a walk though the streets of downtown Chapel Hill where you will find nearly 50 colorful, engaging murals. Mural map available.

Festifall Arts Markets
This beloved annual arts festival returns with two events this fall. Each market will feature a distinct and eclectic mix of experiences, including art vendors, live performances, local food, and music.
Solstice Lantern Walk
Annual walk kicks off the each day of winter each December 21 features a parade of hundreds of handmade lanterns and lights along the River Walk in nearby Hillsborough.
North Carolina Science Festival
Held every April, this month-long celebration encompasses hundreds of events throughout the state, including hands-on activities, talks, lab tours, exhibits, and performances for all ages. The festival is organized by Morehead Planetarium and Science Center on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus.

Cat’s Cradle

Cultural Landmarks
Franklin Street
The heart of Chapel Hill, Franklin Street is lined with shops, restaurants, and bars. It's also the site of major events like Festifall and the student rush after a UNC win over Duke University in basketball.
Historic Playmakers Theatre
Built in 1851, this Greek Revival building is one of the oldest buildings dedicated to the arts at UNC. It has architectural significance and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
